Mathematics
The Mathematics Department aims to give all pupils confidence in the use of mathematics, problem solving skills, and the ability to think clearly and logically. Most pupils enjoy Mathematics and experience success at all levels throughout the school. We are committed to assisting the pupils in achieving their potential and our general aim in the Department is to make the study of maths interesting, challenging and rewarding.
In Years 4-9, pupils follow a spiral curriculum where key topics are visited and re-visited at higher levels to build ability and confidence. Topics include Number/Algebra, Data Handling and Shape, Space & Measure. There are significant assessments throughout each year linked to the Level descriptors, to ensure each pupil is achieving according to their ability.
In Years 10-11 (GCSE), pupils follow the AQA GCSE Programme with two final exams in the Summer of Year 11. This course is complimented by a comprehensive ICT programme, which incorporates online testing and assessment. There are also two coursework tasks to be completed on Handling Data and Algebra, which account for 20% of the marks. For more details view detailed subject options by viewing the Option Blocks webpage.
Out of the Classroom
In addition to classroom activities Red House pupils also take part in the National Maths Challenge in which we regularly achieve great success. We provide many extra-curricular opportunities to improve including booster sessions, GCSE and revision and coursework assistance.
