An Evening of Drama
Parents and pupils were treated to a double bill of drama towards the end of the summer term. Pupils from the Preparatory & Senior School provided an evening of entertainment by staging two performances of contrasting drama.
Following on from the success of the festive performance of ‘A Christmas Carol’, the cast of 22 reunited for the summer term production of ‘Kids in Tights’, a rhyming adaptation of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. As more boys than girls volunteered to take part in the play, this led to the casting of a boy (Daniel Howie) in the role of Juliet, just as would have happened in Shakespearean times, when female actresses didn’t exist. Unlike the days of the Bard, however, this play had a lively score of song and dance!
Next on the bill was a thoughtful, one-act play by Alan Ayckbourn called ‘Mother Figure’, which was performed by some of the older pupils. The evening was a tremendous success and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
