Red House Pupils Take Part in Cathedral Celebration
In the first event of its kind, pupils from ten Independent Schools in the Tees Valley and South Durham region camme together for two excellent reasons. Red House was one of several schools which collaborated in a concert in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust and to celebrate the musical talents of their students.
Pupils from Red House spent months preparing for this musical celebration, whic culminated in a concert in Durham Cathedral on Friday, February 5th. With 321 pupils aged 9 to 18 taking part as instrumentalists and singers, the concert featured the largest choir ever to perform in the historic Cathedral. Guest conductor for the event was distinguished musician and composer, Will Todd, and a varied musical programme includes extracts from Karl Jenkins ‘The Armed Man’.
One of the ushers on the night was Sixth Form student Laurence Whiteley who benefited from the support of the Teenage Cancer Trust when he was a patient at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Laurence said, ‘It was fantastic to see young people using their talents to support this superb charity which gives help to teenagers when they need it most’.
The Headteachers of the schools are delighted that students are being given the opportunity to work together, to demonstrate their musical skills, whilst helping others.
