Nursery

The main aim of the Nursery is to provide a caring and stimulating environment, endowing children with a positive attitude to learning which will serve them through their formative years.

The curriculum is based on the guidelines for the Early Years Foundation Stage which covers six areas of learning. N&I webpage003Through carefully focused and well planned activities, children are encouraged to develop their ideas, understand more about their world and to learn sound spiritual and social values by being cooperative and developing awareness of others. Children in the Nursery learn through a variety of independent, guided and play based activities.

Young children learn most effectively through play and first hand experiences. Nursery pupils are taught to listen carefully, to make friends, share, take turns and be polite. Through listening to stories, playing phonic games, looking at books and using writing materials, children begin the process of learning to read and write.N&I webpage004
Through sand and water play, construction toys and sorting activities, your child will develop mathematical and scientific skills. Creative activities such as music, painting, modelling and imaginative play, help the social, emotional and intellectual development of your child.
Physical activity is also vital for your child’s development and outdoor play is encouraged as much as possible in our secure, all weather, garden.N&I webpage002 Nursery children have specialist P.E. and music lessons on a weekly basis.
Throughout the year a variety of educational visits are organised including visits to the library, to farms and woodlands.  All these experiences help to further enrich the learning of all our pupils.
