Year 1
In Year 1, it can sometimes take children a while to adjust from the Foundation Stages, to more formalised lessons. However, once they have got used to their new routines, they adapt incredibly well. It is also the Year where most children develop from tots into young, confident, independent children, where the skills they have learned in the Foundation Stage, are taken to the next level. They are developing into interested learners.
The progress made by children in their studies throughout the School
year is amazing. In most cases, the difference in their written work
from the start of Year 1 to the following July, is immense. On Parent’s
evenings, a lot of parents are pleasantly surprised to see the progress
and difference, in terms of handwriting, grammar skills and story
construction. It really is a period in a child’s development when
progress is rapid in such a short period of time.
In
addition to the formal numeracy and literacy lessons during morning
classes, children are involved in less intense foundation subjects in
the afternoon. The relaxed nature of subjects, such as Science, Art,
History and Geography, allows children to discover things for
themselves, and ask a range of sensible and relevant questions relating
to their studies.
By the end of Year 1, children have become fully interested and enthusiastic learners. It is always a pleasure to see children move into Year 2 and continue their progression both socially and academically.
