Year 2
Year 2 is an exciting year for Red House pupils as they are not as young as our 'little ones' (to coin one of their phrases). In this year they become confident, expressive readers who can read a variety of texts with enthusiasm and enjoyment.
They learn to write in joined-up handwriting
which enables them to express themselves freely and quickly. Their
spelling becomes more accurate and, due to their extensive reading,
they learn to write with a thoughtful and careful choice of wordplay.
The children soon learn to edit and present their work in a mature and
sophisticated style. This makes marking by teachers such a satisfying
time.
Children begin to learn their times tables and, with the aid of interactive whiteboards in the classrooms, become more proficient mathematicians, just in time for end of Year 2 SATs.

In addition to reading, writing and arithmetic, children engage other subjects with the added benefit of field trips, such as a History trip to the Beamish museum. Practical classes in Science, Art, Design & Technology, Music and P.E. allow pupils to develop into confident and happy individuals, fulfilling their potential in every aspect.
