Dear Parents,

What a wonderful end to a fantastic year at Red House, culminating in an exciting week of a high-octane Senior School Sports Day on Monday, The Spires trip to Oxford and Cambridge on Wednesday and Thursday and the Festival of Achievement and Prize Giving today. It was truly wonderful to be able to celebrate the fantastic array of very talented pupils that we have at Red House in person this year, after a three year Covid-induced break and to welcome so many parents into school again.

Staff News
Today, we bid our fond farewells to a number of long-serving and much-loved staff, and also welcome some new staff to the Red House family from September:

  • Mr Kitching joined Red House in 1994, and although I have only had the pleasure of working with Mr Kitching for the past two years, he has been such a tower of support for me during my short time at Red House. Apart from his role as Assistant Head (Pastoral), Mr Kitching has been the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the whole school; Team Leader for pupils in Years 6-8 and is also an extremely talented PE teacher. In recognition of Mr Kitching’s amazing service to the school, in particularly as pastoral lead, we will be dedicating a new cup called the Danny Kitching Award for Resilience in our annual Prize Giving. This will commence from next July and will be awarded annually to the pupil who has demonstrated a high degree of grit, perseverance and resilience.
  • Mr McReddie has been Red House Director of Music since September 1998. Mr McReddie is a very talented and brilliant musician, having led the school band in all of the many and very memorable productions on the piano, played at so many nativities and accompanied many children on many instruments. Apart from his dedication to Music, Mr McReddie has also been the Fire Warden at Red House and he has strived tirelessly to keep the Red House community safe, with our termly fire drill practices and weekly testing of our alarm system. In recognition of Mr McReddie’s wonderful musical achievements at Red House over the past almost quarter of a century, the Music House will henceforth be known and named the Gordon McReddie Music House.
  • At May half term, after 14 years of dedicating herself to caring, teaching and supporting the pupils in the Junior School, Mrs Lisa Sanderson made the decision to retire from her role as a Teaching Assistant.
  • We also bid a fond farewell to Miss Lisa Rogers, who joined us in January to care for and nurture 2C, whilst Mrs Cooper was on maternity leave.
  • I am excited to extend a welcome to the newest member of the Senior Management Team, Mr Nick Gresswell, who joins the Red House family as Assistant Head (Operations) in September, and to Mrs Catherine Brown, who joins us in September as our new Director of Music.

We wish you all the very best of luck for the future and hope that you will pop in to see us at Red House.

Miss Claire Thompson
Deputy Head & Head of Senior School

It has been an action-packed week, full of celebrations, from Sports Day, the End-of-Year 6 Assembly, Prize Giving and our final whole school Celebration Assembly, which recognised individual and house merit success. This afternoon, I particularly enjoyed looking back on some of the special memories that have been created this year, through a montage of photographs, displaying events such as day trips, residentials, charity work, co-curricular activities, sport, academic achievements and music and drama. It’s amazing what we’ve managed to fit in! Speaking of music and drama, yesterday, I had the pleasure of watching Performing Arts Club perform ‘School of Rock’. For children aged 8-12, I couldn’t believe their confidence on stage and it wouldn’t surprise me if I see some of them on the West End stage in years to come!

Co-curricular Clubs
We are delighted to be offering a full programme of co-curricular clubs in September, including lunch time and after-school clubs. The full list will be sent to parents on Friday 2 September 2022 with details about how to sign up. The clubs will then commence the week beginning Monday 12 September 2022.

Gum Shield Fittings: Tuesday 6 September 2022
Thinking ahead to the Autumn Term sports, it is imperative that your child wears a gum shield when playing rugby and hockey. If you would like to take advantage of the gum shield fitting in school, please email Miss Linda Ward ( by Friday 29 July 2022.

Finally, I would just like to wish you all a wonderful summer with your family and I’ll look forward to welcoming the children back into school when they return in September.

Mr Simon Haywood
Head of Junior School

Well, we have finally made it to the end of what has been an incredibly busy and enjoyable school year. What a lovely way to finish the year with the EYFS End-of-Year Celebration and KS1 and 2 Festival of Achievement. The pupils should all feel extremely proud of their efforts throughout. There have been many highlights (far too many than can be mentioned here) and many things that will last long in the memory for both staff and pupils alike. The pupils now deserve a well-earned rest and plenty of relaxation, ready for the new challenges that await them in September!

Summer Holiday Club
Many thanks to everyone who has booked for this summer’s Holiday Club. We can no longer take any further bookings. I hope all of the pupils who have joined up, have a thoroughly enjoyable time.

Co-curricular Clubs
It has been lovely to see the children enjoy the variety of clubs on offer to them this term. The new clubs list for the start of the new school year will be emailed out to you on 2 September, with clubs to commence the week beginning 12 September 2022. Once received, please email your choices to

Miss Rogers
It is with sadness that we say goodbye to Miss Rogers. Miss Rogers has been with us since January, working with Year 2 in Mrs Cooper’s absence. She has been a great asset to the school during this time. I know the pupils she has taught will miss her greatly, and we wish her every success for the future.

Many thanks for your support and co-operation throughout this school year; it is always gratefully appreciated. May I take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful summer.
