I hope you all had a fantastic Easter and could take advantage of the easing of some of the restrictions. It has been wonderful to have the children back in school this week and to see them happy and playing on the sports field in the glorious sunshine! This week has been a busy one, with the Year 11 summer assessments starting in earnest, as well as many Year 10 pupils writing their letters of application to become a Senior Prefect in the next academic year. Yesterday was Earth Day, and this was marked by an assembly in the senior school, a Greta Thunberg-themed game of ‘heads and tails’ with pupils in Years 6-8, and children in Year 2 learned about the importance of protecting our planet by suggesting ideas of how they, and their families, could recycle more.
Of course, much of this was eclipsed by the news on Tuesday that Mr James will be leaving Red House at the end of this term to work overseas again. He has achieved phenomenal success at Red House during his time here and, although the children are hugely saddened by his news, they are fully committed to ensuring Mr James has a wonderful final term and is sent off in true Red House style!
‘Attitude of Gratitude’ Journals
This week, pupils from Year 2 to 11 were given an ‘Attitude of Gratitude’ notebook by their form teacher. In form time every morning, pupils are being encouraged to jot down at least one thing that they are grateful for, as evidence suggests that starting the school day on an optimistic note, can really help make their day a positive and happy one!

Cleveland Police ‘Online Safety’ Parent Webinars
Next week, Cleveland Police are hosting two free webinars aimed at parents and carers of school age children to help them learn more about the risks within the online world and what they can do to keep their children safe. Both events are available for all to attend; however, the morning session is aimed more at primary school age and the afternoon session for secondary school age; however, both have many crossover details. Please see the invitation at the bottom of Pupil Post for more details.
Year 9 Human Papilloma Vaccine (HPV) and Catch Up Programme
The immunisation team will be in school on 5 May 2021 to vaccinate Year 9 pupils with the HPV vaccine. This is their second dose; therefore, if your child has received their first dose then they will automatically be called for their second dose, as you have already given consent for both doses. If you provided consent last year for the vaccines, but your child has not received the first dose, this will be given at this session. If you have not already consented for your child to receive these vaccines, and would like your child to receive them, please visit Year 9 HPV Vaccine Consent and use school code 111767 to give your consent or call the immunisation consent line on 01423 557693. If you have already given your consent for your child to receive these immunisations, then you do not need to do anything.
