Dear Parents

I thoroughly enjoyed watching, and being part of, the Year 4 production this morning.  The pupils spoke and acted with such confidence, telling us all about St Valentine, and I know the audience loved it.

 Coronavirus/Covid-19

You will be aware that the advice keeps changing as more cases develop around the world.  We would like to highlight that anyone who has visited Hubei province in the past 14 days should self-isolate.  People having travelled to other parts of China, including Macao and Hong King, Thailand, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia are being urged to self-isolate if they develop symptoms of the disease.  I’m conscious we may have children and parents travelling over half term.  Please keep up-to-date with the travel advice being given by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (click here) and the latest medical advice (click here).  Should you have any concerns after travelling, please do get in touch to discuss your particular circumstances.

Year 5 Camp

We’re extending our outdoor education provision this year and have provisionally booked an overnight experience for the children in Year 5 in the grounds of Castle Howard.  I’m a great believer in the benefits of outdoor education which can impact on the children’s physical, mental and social health.  I would love to see all the pupils attend and the letter can be found here.

London Trip

We will be running the ever popular London Trip again in September too.  This is open to children currently in Years 6-11 and is often oversubscribed.  Pupils should return their paperwork as soon as possible.  The form is here.

Year 11 Revision

It’s important for the pupils to undertake some revision over the holidays but they should also rest.  We always suggest they plan ahead and agree a revision programme too.  They should also continue to take part in sporting activities.  We always suggest this and Professor Peter Clough, Head of the Psychology Department at Huddersfield University is in agreement too.  He wrote about it in the Telegraph last year and his findings can be read here.

I hope the children have a wonderful half term and you manage to spend time with them.  I’ll be spending time with family whilst trying to avoid the worst of Storm Dennis!

With best wishes

Ken James
