Mr Ken James, Headmaster Red House School

Dear Parents,

Christmas is coming!  Despite my best efforts, the decorations have been put up (it’s still November!) but I know there’s going to be a wonderful atmosphere for the children in the next couple of weeks.  The finishing touches are also being added to our numerous performances and I look forward to watching the children sing, dance and act next week.

We are recording the performances in school and DVDs will be available to buy.  A pre-order form is attached and completing it will ensure we order sufficient DVDs for all.

School Council AGM

This event occurred on Wednesday evening.  I would like to thank those parents who have been members of School Council this year for their efforts.  Red House is unusual in that all members of School Council are parents and this reflects how the School was established in 1929.  Four parents of current pupils have also joined this year and I look forward to working with them in the coming months.  Their profiles will be added to the school website in due course.

Some of you may be unfamiliar with the role of a school governor.  I think the most pertinent points (taken from the Association of Governing Bodies of Independent Schools) are to:

  • determine the overall direction and development of the school through good governance and clear strategic planning.
  • provide support and challenge for the head and senior leaders in appropriate proportion.

Their support and guidance on strategic matters is invaluable they can always contacted via should you wish to comment on this.  Please continue to bring day-to-day matters to the attention of senior managers in school.  We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure your children receive the best education possible.

Sunday Times Parent Power Survey

A number of local schools have been celebrating their ranking in the Sunday Times Parent Power Survey.  It’s worth noting that our school is not included in the categories which have been published thus far.  We look forward to sharing our results with you in due course. Watch this space!

I attended a meeting this week along with colleagues and parents who are stalwarts of the PTA.  Sadly numbers of volunteers seem to be dwindling and I would ask all parents to think about helping.  At the moment, tasks which benefit all the children, are being undertaken by just a few parents.  If you are willing to help, please drop me a line and I will pass on your details.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.  I have a few reports to read which I am sure will be a pleasurable exercise.  I look forward to seeing many of you for the festivities next week.

With best wishes

Ken James
