Dear Parents

It was lovely to see so many children and staff dressed up to celebrate World Book Day.   In the digital age in which we find ourselves, anything which promotes the printed word has to be a good thing.

Head of the Senior School/Deputy Head

I’m delighted to announce that Dr Rebecca Ashcroft has accepted the post of Head of the Senior School from September 2020.  She is currently Assistant Head at Harrogate Ladies’ College, with specific responsibility for the Sixth Form.  Rebecca will also be teaching History and leading our focus on mental well-being and mindfulness in the Senior School. We look forward to welcoming Rebecca and I do not doubt she will be a wonderful addition to our talented group of educators.

One Night in Hollywood: Friday 15 May

The PTA cordially invites you to join them for ‘One Night in Hollywood’ at Wynyard Hall on Friday 15 May.  Further details of this event, open to parents, staff and friends can be found by clicking here.  We hope to see many of you there and booking early is advised due to places being limited.

Sport Relief

Next Friday will be our termly non-uniform day and we will be raising funds for Sport Relief.  The Senior School pupils should wear sport themed clothing (they will all be taking part in the ‘danceathon’) and the Junior School children are being encouraged to dress in red.  I’m also looking forward to donning Lycra for the annual Staff v Pupils netball match next Tuesday.  We’re up against the national finalists from 2018 so I suspect we will need a good deal of luck on our side if we are to retain the trophy.

Please keep abreast of the information being released by the government, particularly with respect to overseas travel should you be planning to go abroad over Easter.  At the moment it’s ‘business as usual’ at Red House apart from the rather fervent washing of hands.  Should specific guidance be offered with respect to schools, I will, of course, be in touch immediately.

With best wishes

Ken James
