Ken James Headmaster at Red House School

Dear Parents

I spent three days this week inspecting another school on the other side of the Pennines.  Seeing other schools in action always gives me food for thought whilst affirming many of the things we do here.  Rest assured, we will continue to observe and evolve to ensure we’re the best small, yet perfectly formed, school we can be.

Parking

Precious time this week has been spent dealing with neighbours and councillors about parking around the Green.  Please can I ask you all to ensure you park safely and with consideration.  Please also ensure speed is appropriate when in proximity to the school.  As we continue to look at ways in which we can enhance our site, the support of neighbours and councillors will be important; let’s keep them happy.

Whole School Photograph – Tuesday 24 September

Please can you ensure the pupils are wearing full school uniform on this day.  Jumpers are not required, although they can be worn to school.  All pupils should be wearing shirts – no summer dresses please.

PTA Race Night – Friday 5 October

Please find attached details about this event for the family; we hope to see lots of you there.  Not only will it be a fun-filled gathering, but funds will also be raised to provide our children with those little extras.

PTA AGM and Nominations – Wednesday 2 October

Please consider joining this group of willing volunteers.  We are a rather exclusive bunch at the moment so any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.  There is also the opportunity to stand for a place on the executive.  Further details can be found below.

CEO Sleepout (Middlesbrough & Stockton) – Monday 11 November

Following a suggestion from a current parent, I’m taking part in the CEO sleepout this year.  Whilst highlighting the plight of homeless people in our area, it also raises funds to support them.  If this is a cause you wish to support, you can sponsor me by clicking here.  If any parent CEOs would like to join me, do have a word.

Senior School European Cake Off – Thursday 26 September

Don’t forget we’re celebrating the European Day of Languages and supporting the Macmillan Coffee Morning next week.  Cakes should be brought into school on Thursday at the latest in order to be judged and sold at break-time to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Please be aware that we are a nut-free school.

Taster Week – 7-11 October 2019

During this week, we will be hosting a number of pupils interested in attending Red House.  It’s an ideal way to see the school in action and some pupils currently with us certainly enjoyed the experience.  Please let your friends know their children can come and ‘try before they buy’.

Grease

We’re delighted to announce formally that our next musical will be Grease. Once again, children from Year 3 and above will be taking part.  A letter is attached with details of the auditions taking place for Years 7-10.  Please can I emphasise the need for pupils to commit to rehearsals.  We appreciate that other commitments may crop up now and again, but all pupils who are successful at the auditions must commit to attending rehearsals regularly.

Stokesley Show – Saturday 21 September

Claire, Sarah and Vanessa from Marketing and Admissions will be representing the school at the show; please pop along and say hello.  Sadly, I won’t be attending this year: I’m heading to London for the weekend with some of the children in the Senior School.

With best wishes

Ken James
