Dear Parents,Today was my first experience of Red House Has Got Talent (RHGT) and what an experience it was! We had over 20 talented and creative acts performing this afternoon, ranging from a one-handed Rubik’s Cube performer, to impressions and robot dancing; and from piano and singing pieces, to The Beatle’s ‘Yesterday’ being performed on the cornet. There was even an ‘Ode to Mr Kitching’ and a staff rendition of ‘Piano Man’ in honour of Mr McReddie, who are both retiring at the end of this term. A perfect finish to a lovely afternoon was the PTA very kindly organising an ice cream for all of the pupils and staff; it was a delicious treat!Summer ConcertLast night, we hosted our first Summer Concert since 2019; it was an amazing evening and the performances were truly phenomenal, ranging from children in Years 4 and 5, all the way up to pupils in Year 11. We had pieces from our school orchestra, choir, a Flute Trio, a Jazz Ensemble and a rock band’s brilliant rendition of Guns N’ Roses ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’. It was fabulous to be able to listen to live music again, especially of such a high quality. Who needs Glastonbury!Save the date! The PTA are hosting a fabulous seasonal Christmas Soirée at Wynyard Hall on Friday 25 November 2022. Please save the date in your diary. It has been one of the most uplifting weeks at the Senior School this week as, after years of restrictions, having music fill the school once again has certainly raised everyone’s spirits (and the roof!). From the Summer Concert on Thursday to the Red House Has Got Talent show this afternoon, it is clear there are no limits to the talents of our pupils. Not only were the performers incredible, but the atmosphere from the audience was fantastic. After 27 years of teaching at Red House, Mr Kitching also presented his final assembly this week. He took the pupils and staff on a trip down memory lane and left us all with a positive message about being part of the Red House family. An excerpt of ‘The Ode to Mr Kitching’ sums this up his message perfectly: ‘…meet your potential and work well, some very good advice to tell; love your school and work as a team, achieve, progress, fulfil your dream; sense of humour, get things done, sound advice if you’ve lost or won…’Similarly, to celebrate 25 years teaching at Red House, the staff today gave a great rendition of ‘Piano Man’ with adapted lyrics for Mr McReddie, to celebrate all he has done over the years: the shows, the Christmas Performances and Nine Lessons and Carols, to name just a few! Both Mr Kitching and Mr McReddie will be sorely missed by pupils, staff and parents but we wish them all the best as they move onto their next chapter. We still have more exciting events to look forward to next week, starting with the Years 7-10 Sports Day on Monday 4 July 2022, from 1.15-4pm at Middlesbrough Sports Village; we are very much looking forward to this event and seeing parents there. Our Year 6 pupils are also presenting their end-of-year assembly to parents on Wednesday 6 July 2022 at 9.10am and they are in for a treat! Finally, of course, we will finish the term on Friday 8 July 2022 with our Senior School Prize Giving, starting at 2pm. Parents of this year’s prize winners have been notified today.Senior School Dates:  *   Monday 4 July: Years 7-10 Sports Day at Middlesbrough Sports Village  *   Wednesday 6 July: Year 6 End of Year Performance  *   Friday 8 July: Senior School Prize Giving  *   Friday 8 July: Last Day of Term

Head of Junior School

It seems hard to believe that we are only a week away from the end of the school year.  The pupils have worked exceptionally hard throughout, and deserve tremendous credit.  I think the visit from the ice cream van today was well-received and well-deserved! Whilst there’s only one week of the school year left, there’s still a tremendous lot to do, most notably preparing the pupils for the Early Years Celebration on Thursday 7 July and the Festival of Achievement on the final day!It was also lovely to see so many of you at the Summer Fête last Saturday. It was a wonderful event that brought the school community together. Many thanks to the PTA, for all the work they do behind the scenes to make days like this happen.Summer Holiday clubHoliday Club is booking up very quickly. Should you wish to book a place, the final date to do so is Wednesday, 6 July 2022, but I would recommend you do so as soon as possible, as spaces are becoming limited on certain days.Forest School WeekAnother reminder that, for pupils aged 8-12, we are offering a ‘Forest School’ week from Monday 18 July – Friday 22 July 2022.
