Dear Parents,

Across both sites, we are in full-on Christmas mode, preparing for next week’s festivities. On the last day of term, the pupils will be enjoying quizzes, dingbats, snowball dodgeball, a Christmas sing-a-thon with hot chocolate and cookies, a chocolate tombola, crafting and a party-style lunch, with pizzas from Dominos. In the Senior School, there will be Christmas films in form groups and the children in the Junior School are expecting a very special visitor from the North Pole! In addition, we are all supporting Save the Children and the children have been invited to wear their Christmas jumpers.

Co-curricular Clubs Next Term

Mr Haywood and Miss Thompson are currently finalising the clubs on offer for the Spring Term across both sites. These will be sent out in Pupil Post on 7 January 2022, with details about how to sign your child up to the different activities. The co-curricular clubs will commence in the week commencing Monday 17 January, and it is likely that the clubs will be open to specific year groups, and will rotate on a half-termly basis. This is subject to change, depending on Government and local Public Health guidance.

Omicron Variant

In the DfE guidance yesterday they have stated that all individuals who have been identified as a close contact of a suspected or confirmed case of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, irrespective of vaccination status and age, will continue to be required to self-isolate and asked to book a PCR test. The Government plans to introduce Daily Contact Testing as soon as possible as an alternative to self-isolation for contacts of positive Omicron cases who are fully vaccinated or under the age of 18 years and 6 months.

LFD Testing in School

As mentioned in last week’s Pupil Post, we will be arranging for pupils in Years 7-11 to test themselves in school on their return to school on Thursday, 6 January. Please can children bring their mobiles with them into school on that day to help record their results.

COVID-19 LFD Home Testing

A further supply of LFD test kits will come home with pupils on Monday and we expect our next supply to be available for pupils in mid-January. A reminder, that it is absolutely essential that all pupils in Years 7-11 continue to be tested at home twice a week on a Monday morning and a Thursday morning.

Parent Portal and School Reports

All school reports, from Nursery to Year 11, will be available on the Red House Parent Portal, on Friday, 17 December. If you have not yet subscribed, please refer to the email sent by Mr Butterfield on Friday, 26 November, for details on how to set up your account (which includes your Parent Portal number and password, plus a link to the portal and instructions on how to set up your account). As well as accessing your account via a PC, you can also download the portal as an app to your mobile phone. The iSAMS iParent App is available to download via the iTunes and Android App Stores. If you use the Parent Portal app, you will be asked for a school code which is REDH. Please do not hesitate to contact Mr Butterfield, our Network Manager, at Mr Butterfield’s email address if you are experiencing any technical issues.

You will need to set up a security question in order to be able to reset your own password on Parent Portal. To reset your password, please follow the steps below:

1.     Login in to the website

2.     Click ‘My Account’

3.     Click ‘My Security Question’ (or choose that option from the dropdown initially)

4.     Choose a question, type the answer twice and click ‘save’

I wish you all a wonderful weekend with your families.

With very best wishes

Dr Rebecca Ashcroft

Miss Claire Thompson

Beneath the festive lights and tinsel there’s still an incredible amount of work taking place at the Senior School. The children have shown great resilience this half-term, tackling tests as well as their usual classwork, and the tremendous efforts of pupils and staff have not gone unnoticed. If you have any issues you wish to discuss following receipt of your child’s report next Friday, via the Parent Portal, please get in touch with your child’s form tutor in the first instance.

Mr Heron and Mrs Foster have set up a virtual Pupil Council this half-term, inclusive of Years 6-11, and are in the process of receiving feedback from each tutor group; I’m looking forward to hearing the points they have raised in the New Year! On the back of COP26 (held 31 October – 13 November 2021), and led by Pupil Council, the children will also be actioning some environmental initiatives in the New Year.

Mental Health continues to be at the forefront of what we do at Red House and ‘drop in’ sessions are still being run weekly in the Biology lab, which will continue after the holidays. Year 6-8 sessions run on Tuesday lunchtimes (1.30-2); Year 9-11 sessions run on Thursday lunchtimes (1-1.30). The children are welcome to come and chat to us about anything they may have on their mind.

Final Week – Christmas Events

Please can the children make sure they have their indoor and outdoor trainers in school next week. There will be a range of activities taking place that will require both sets of footwear.

  • Reindeer Run – This will take place for Years 3-11 in their Games lessons next week. Please see letter attached for more details.

Tuesday 14 December: Y11 and Y5 & 6

Wednesday 15 December Y7 & 8

Thursday 16 December Y3 & 4 and Y9 &10

  • Christmas Lunch – Wednesday 15 December
  • ‘Christmas Fun Day’ & ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ (£1 for Save the Children) – Friday 17 December

Please can pupils wear their Christmas jumper with their PE tracksuit bottoms and t-Shirt as each class will be taking part in ‘snowball dodgeball’.

Year 6 Forest School: Thursday 13 January-Thursday 17 February

I am delighted to announce that Year 6 will be taking part in a 6-week Forest School experience, which will be timetabled within the school day next term, taking place every Thursday from 13 January until 17 February. Outdoor learning, such as this, embraces the approach of nurturing, supporting and developing the self-esteem of the children. It is an ideal environment in which to develop innovation, problem solving, risk taking and teamwork and I cannot wait to take part with them! Please see the attached letter for more details.

Mr Simon Haywood

Christmas Cards

Some parents have been in touch with me to ask when the children’s Christmas card designs will be ready (especially those looking to send abroad).  I know we have just received as batch and as soon as we have processed the orders, they will be with your child as soon as we possibly can.

Metro FM Cash for Kids Appeal

Once again, the school is supporting the ‘Cash for Kids’ appeal, to support children and families in the local area who otherwise may not receive any gifts this year.  Next week, we are accepting donations of new, unwrapped gifts and toys for boys and girls.  If you would kindly like to contribute, please leave at the Junior Office, and the Cash for Kids Team will collect them at the end of the week.  Many thanks in advance for once again supporting this wonderful charity.

Years 3, 4 and 5 Reindeer Run

Next week as part of their Games lesson at Senior School, Years 3-5 will be taking part in the Annual Sponsored ‘Reindeer Run’.  The pupils should have received a sponsor form.  I have no doubt that they will all have tremendous fun whilst raising money for charity.

PTA Tea Towels

Thank you to all who have already purchased Junior school tea towels.  They have sold extremely well and stock is now very limited.   These are available to purchase at £5 each or 3 for £12. Please email JuniorOffice@redhouseschool.co.uk to place an order.  The cost will be added to your school bill.

Christmas Events

For your information, the following Christmas events will be happening in the final week.

  • Wednesday 15 December – Christmas lunch at school.
  • Thursday 16 December – Christmas party day (non-uniform)
  • Friday 17 December – Christmas Jumper Day.  Please bring £1 for the Save the Children Charity

(Pupils to wear Christmas jumper and PE tracksuit bottoms).

Year 4 Forest School

Year 5 have thoroughly enjoyed Forest school this term and in January, it will be the turn of the Year 4’s to enjoy the experience.  Their lessons will take place on Thursdays (when they will already be in PE kit). However, a hat and gloves is recommended for the January weather!  Lessons will commence on Thursday 13 January.
