Dear Parents,

It has been a week packed full of adrenaline and excitement this week. On Tuesday, children in EYFS and Years 1-3 had their Sports Day; it was wonderful to see their smiles (and steely determination), as they competed in the egg and spoon, sack and beanbag races! Wednesday was our Transition Day, and the pupils really enjoyed meeting their new teachers and experiencing a snapshot of what next year holds for them. Also, on Wednesday, the Year 7 had a brilliant and very informative History and Geography trip to Warkworth Castle. Thursday was the culmination of two years of hard work for the Year 11s, with them completing their final GCSE exam; they will be celebrating together as a year group, with staff, at the Year 11 Prom this evening at Judges Country Hotel. The finale to an incredible week at Red House saw the pupils in Years 4-6 enjoying their Sports Day; well done to all of the children, who were magnificent.

Hot off the Press!
Two of our Year 7 teams have been awarded 1st and 2nd place in the highly prestigious ICE Inspire 2022 – Sustainable Civil Engineering Award, which was open to all schools from across the wider North East region, and sponsored by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

The team of Willow, Lizzie and Matilda won the event outright, with the team of Alice, Sarah and Lucy coming 2nd place. The judges were very impressed with both team’s submissions which involved designs that help promote a more sustainable way of life for our future communities. The ICE judges commented that their ‘technical concept was excellent and really addressed the issues faced by our society as a result of the climate crises…The subjects were very well researched, and touched on many different subject areas, including, materials and renewable energy, which shows a good holistic understanding of the issues that civil engineers have to create solutions for.’ Our winners will be presented with their trophies and prizes in School by the organisers, ICE, in the near future.

PTA Summer Fête
The PTA Summer Fête is taking place tomorrow between 11am and 3pm on the Senior School field. There will be something for everyone and entry is £2 per person. There will be bouncy castles aplenty, as well as food and refreshments, 30 stalls and lots of fun activities.

With very warm wishes

Dr Rebecca Ashcroft

Miss Claire Thompson
Deputy Head & Head of Senior School

We are continuing to celebrate Pride Month and, in this morning’s Achievement Assembly, Dr Ashcroft tested the pupil’s knowledge with an interactive ‘Heads and Tails’ quiz. It was amazing to see so many pupils still standing at the end! They were able to recall facts such as the number of LGBTQ+ flags (32); the year of the Stonewall riots in New York (1969); the year that Section 28 was introduced, banning schools from talking about same-sex relationships (1988); and the number of people that participated in the first Pride March in London in 1972 (1 million).

It was wonderful to see our current Year 5 and 6 pupils rise to the challenge of ‘moving up’ on Transition Day. Watching them smile and cheer as they met their new form tutors was a particularly heart-warming moment, and it was lovely to hear their highlights of the day (which, of course, for some of them, was lunch!) New pupils joining us in September were welcomed into the Red House family and, from speaking to teaching staff, they all made a great impression; I hope they are excited about their next step! Following this, parents of pupils in current Year 5 have been invited to attend the Year 6 Information Meeting, on Wednesday 29 June 2022 at 4.10pm, at the Senior School, to meet their child’s new form tutor and find out more about the year ahead. Parents of pupils in current Year 6 will be invited to a Year 7 Parent Guide in September where they will meet key staff and find out about some of the main features of life in Year 7.

Finally, I would just like to say congratulations to all of the Year 4-6 pupils who took part in Sports Day today and for their sportsmanship – it was a great atmosphere! I would also like to wish our Year 10 pupils the best of luck as they prepare for their final Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award expedition on Monday. This evening, I am now looking forward to joining our Year 11 pupils at Judges Country Hall for their Prom, which will be a perfect way to celebrate the end of their GCSEs and their time at Red House.

Mr Simon Haywood

Well it’s finally started to feel a little bit like summer at the Junior school this week. We’ve also had Transition Day, where the pupils have enjoyed a day with their class and new teacher for September. I’m sure Years 4-6 will have performed brilliantly today in their Sports Day at the Senior School. What an incredibly busy week for everyone!
