Dr Rebecca Ashcroft, Head at Red House School

Dear Parents,

It has been an action-packed week at Red House, with the children in Nursery and Reception delivering a brilliant Mother’s Day performance yesterday. The Year 3 pupils have been busy making propagators in Forest School, and the U13s boys’ rugby team had a fantastic couple of days participating in the Rosslyn Park National Schools 7’s in London.  I am really excited and looking forward to the Easter celebrations and activities which will be happening across both sites next week. There are rumours that an Easter bunny may be making a special appearance…

Cyber Security Learning for Children
Thank you to a Year 6 parent for sharing with me an exciting new resource by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) for children aged 7-11 to play and learn about cyber security. Young people are growing up in an increasingly digital world, exposing them to both the opportunities and risks of the internet. CyberSprinters empowers them to make smart decisions about staying secure online. The digital game can be played on phone, tablet and desktop, and is supported by a suite of activities to be led by educational practitioners working with 7-11-year olds. Parents and carers can also try the CyberSprinter puzzles with their children at home. To find out more, please click on the link: NCSC – CyberSprinters

PTA Events
Thank you to everyone who supported the PTA Quiz last Friday. It was a wonderful evening and it was lovely to see so many of you at one of the first indoor school events since March 2020. The PTA raised over £500 and the profits have been very kindly donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC). A reminder to keep Friday 27 May free in your diaries! On Friday 27 May, just before we start the May half term holiday, we will be holding a garden party to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. More details to follow, but there will be food and refreshments, bouncy castles and a live band.

I wish you all a fantastic weekend with your families and a lovely Mother’s Day on Sunday.

With very best wishes

Dr Rebecca Ashcroft

Miss Claire Thompson
Deputy Head & Head of Senior School

In this morning’s celebration assembly, I shared the story of ‘The Red Paperclip’, which started with Canadian blogger, Kyle MacDonald, who traded his way from a single red paperclip to a house in a series of fourteen online trades over the course of a year. My message to the children was focused on the idea of having a goal and making a start: using small steps, that can grow into big achievements. It was also wonderful, within the assembly, to celebrate a total of almost 500 merits awarded this week, as well as to hear about individual and team sporting success.

Speaking of sporting success, our Year 6 pupils, along with Years 4 & 5, were able to take part in their first swimming gala at Red House! They thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of the event, working together with members of their house to pick up points in each race. The winners this year were Whorlton but well done to everyone for giving it their all, embracing the event and cheering on their team mates!

Easter Events Next Week
Our Year 6 pupils will take part in their annual Easter Egg Decorating competition and parents may breathe a sigh of relief as we will be providing all of the resources for this in school. On Friday 1 April, there will be an Easter Egg Tombola in Senior School for pupils in Years 6-11. This has been very kindly organised by the PTA. This has proved hugely popular in the past and tickets will be sold for 50p or 3 for £1.

Year 6 will also take part in a ‘Clever Cogz’ workshop at the Junior School, during school time, on Thursday 31 March 2022. Please see letter below.

It was a pleasure to welcome most of you in to school for the first time in over 2 years for our parent/teacher consultations this week.  I trust that the meetings went well.  The pupils continue to work hard rehearsing for their performances and once again we look forward to welcoming you into school next week to see KS1 and KS2 Easter celebrations.   I know the EYFS parents certainly loved watching the Mother’s Day celebration on Thursday afternoon.
