Ken James Headmaster at Red House School

Dear Parents,

Today has been a bittersweet day for the pupils and staff at Red House, as they said goodbye to Mr James, our much-loved Headmaster for the past 5 years. Mr James enjoyed the fanfare of being serenaded to Tina Turner’s ‘Simply the Best’, with a slideshow of photographs of the highlights of Mr James’ 5 years at Red House playing in the background! I am sure that Mr James will pop back to visit us at Red House in the not so distant future and we wish him all of the best for his new exciting adventure in Abu Dhabi.

Staff News

Today we also bid a very fond farewell to Mrs Beverley Kitching in the Junior School, who has been a wonderful teacher in Key Stage 1 for the past 10 years. We wish you all the best for a fantastic retirement.

In the Senior School, I am delighted to be working closely with Miss Claire Thompson, in her new role as Deputy Head and Head of the Senior School from September. I cannot wait to work with Miss Thompson and I know that she will be a great strength and a huge asset to the Red House Senior Leadership Team and the Senior School as a whole. Mrs Janet Smart will be stepping down from her role as Team Leader for pupils in Years 9-11, but continuing as a teacher of Spanish and French. Mrs Smart has been an amazing and very supportive member of the pastoral team at Red House and I would like to thank her for everything she has done with the pupils in her care. I am thrilled to announce that Mr Stephen Heron will become Head of Spanish and Mrs Samantha Lindsay-Symington is taking on the role of Team Leader for Years 9-11, both from September 2021. They are both hugely talented members of staff and I know they will do a sterling role in their new positions. Last but certainly not least, I would like to congratulate, in advance, Mr Tom Thorogood on his imminent nuptials over the summer holidays and wish him and his new wife all the very best for the future.

Prize Giving

Our annual Prize Giving took place today in both the Junior and Senior School. Photographs will be available to view on social media in the coming days for parents to download for free. There will also be an option for parents to purchase professional photographs direct from the photographer should this be required. More details to follow.

Wellbeing at Red House

This term, across both sites, pupils have been focusing on the attitude of gratitude and the importance of being kind in thought and deed. In PSHE in the Senior School, we have been exploring what mental health is and what are the signs to look out for in terms of anxiety and depression. Mrs Cooper has written our third Wellbeing at Red House Newsletter which also signposts parents and staff to some of the signs that indicate that your child’s mental health might need some attention, as well as sources of help should they be required. The newsletter and the links to help are detailed at the bottom of Pupil Post.

Arrangements for next term

I will be writing over the holidays with details of next term’s co-curricular clubs and activities and any information that you may need ahead of the start of term. I will be in school lots over the summer break and would like to warmly invite any parents who would like to pop in for a coffee and a chat to do so. Please contact me at the following address to arrange this: Dr Ashcroft’s email address

School Uniform

A reminder that if you would like to purchase any items of uniform from the Uniform Shop in preparation for the children returning in September, please email Mrs Morton via the following link: Uniform Shop email address  for an appointment.

School Bus Service

Mrs Bellerby will have been in touch with those families who currently use the School Bus Service, to confirm your requirements for next year. If you wish to discuss your child using the School Bus Service, please get in touch with Mrs Bellerby.  We have three bus routes which run morning and afternoon, further details can be found here.

COVID-19

Yesterday, the Government published an update to their guidance regarding bubbles in schools. From Step 4 (19 July 2021), they have recommended that it is no longer necessary to keep children in consistent bubbles and that bubbles will not need to be used in schools from September 2021. Please click on the following link for more details. Updated Government guidance for parents – 8 July 2021 As a result assemblies, daily hot lunches and clubs will return fully in the Autumn Term.

I hope you all have a fantastic summer holiday and I am really looking forward to welcoming the new Year 7 into school for their Transition Day on Friday 3 September, and the rest of the children back into Red House for the start of term on Monday 6 September 2021.

With very best wishes

Rebecca Ashcroft
