It’s lovely to be back in school for what some people feel is the best part of the year. Prizegivings, sports days and, hopefully, sunny playtimes all add to the positivity around school at this time of year.
Teacher of English
Mr Mike Brown will be retiring at Christmas 2019 after working at Red House for an astonishing 28 years. We are currently in the process of recruiting his successor and we have had significant interest: 25 applications. We will be making an appointment over the next couple of weeks and I do not doubt it will be a strong one; Red House is a school where people wish to work.
Tea & Prep
Mrs Sophie Williamson will be stepping down as Tea & Prep Co-ordinator in the Senior School next week. I’m delighted she will be remaining at Red House as our Senior School Librarian and D of E Co-ordinator. We will be appointing someone to run Tea & Prep in due course but you may hear a few different people answering the phone during the last few weeks of term.
I have received and reviewed the report following the inspection last month. I’m hoping to have the official version back in a couple of weeks when I will be in a position to share their findings with you. The findings remain confidential but I can say that I very much look forward to sharing the report with you!
We have applied to SBC to convert the old Headmaster’s House into our new Music School. The application is now live and can be seen on the planning portal (click here). The determination date is in July but, given previous consultation meetings with SBC, we hope the process will be a smooth one.
Over the summer we are also refurbishing the Biology lab, the senior boys’ changing room and completing the refurbishment of the classrooms and corridors in the Old Vicarage. Once again, it’s going to be a very busy summer.
Bags2School – Monday 10 June
Please remember to drop off your unwanted items of clothing (no uniform) to either reception by 9am this Monday. Funds raised go towards those little extra treats for the children.
PTA Summer Fete – Saturday 22 June
Please see attached a letter from the PTA (click here). The Fete is a wonderful community event and I would urge you to support it. We’re looking for volunteers on the day but also sponsorship/prizes for the raffle.
Mr Haywood has attached a letter about the INCAS tests happening next week. These tests are purely for internal use and the children should not worry at all about their performance in them. The results will inform our planning but please remember that we value the children more than we value their achievements in baseline tests.
I hope you have a lovely weekend. Sadly, I spent the whole of half term in hospital so I fully intend to spend the weekend enjoining the sunshine in Whitby…or have I just jinxed it?
With best wishes
