girl looking up and smiling

Dear Parents,

What a difference the sun makes! I’m spending the weekend with Year 10 as they undertake their D of E practice expedition so I’m praying the sunshine continues.  And I’m staying under canvas: the forecast of a thunderstorm is not a welcome one!

Volunteers Please

On 14 May, the STEM Club is attending a competition in Newcastle and we have been asked to provide two judges. If any parents were willing and able to attend Newcastle High School for Girls on the morning of the 14th to judge the competition entries, please contact Mr Wilkinson ( Having a background in engineering would be helpful but not essential as other qualities, such as teamwork, problem solving and leadership are also part of the event.

PTA Raffle

The PTA holds a raffle each year which is drawn at the Ball.  Even if you are not at the event, you can still buy tickets to support the PTA.  Please see the attached letter for further details.

Open Morning

Our next Open Morning is on Saturday 12 May.  Please can I ask you to share our post on Facebook and encourage friends and family to come and see us.  We’ll also be asking the children to help us; thank you for facilitating this.

Uniform – ‘Opening Times’

As I’ve mentioned previously, we now have a full time member of staff looking after the uniform shop.  Should you require items please email a completed order form to Ann at and she will gather your order for pick-up. Alternatively please arrange a mutually convenient time to meet Ann.  This replaces the previous arrangement where the shop was only open on a Tuesday afternoon. Pupils at the Prep & Senior School can also come and see Ann at the Office each morning break.

Summer Uniform

I know some parents are concerned about buying summer dresses now and new ones in September.  Therefore, we have made the decision to allow the current dress to be worn in September and any new design would be implemented in April 2019.

The senior blouses will not be part of the new uniform (and I’m reliably informed the stripes will clash terribly with the new check!).  However, pupils will be allowed to wear short sleeved white shirts during the summer months.

A full guide to the new uniform will be made available in due course when we have all the new items available.

With best wishes

Ken James
