Ken James Headmaster at Red House School

Dear Parents,

I hope you have had a wonderful Christmas with the children.  It remains a bizarre time in all our lives but, hopefully, the festivities allowed you all to focus on what really matters at the moment.

I am sure many of you have been waiting for the guidance from the government with respect to our return in January.  Now that some guidance has been given, my colleagues and I will be formulating a way ahead in the next couple of days and will be able to provide further details in due course.  However, I thought it important to outline the new start dates (as they currently stand):

Monday 4 January – all pupils in the Junior School, including the Nursery, and pupils in Year 6 will return.
Week beginning Monday 11 January – pupils in Year 11 to return.
Week beginning Monday 18 January – pupils in Years 7-10 to return.

Whilst I believe the return of primary aged pupils on Monday 4 January will not change, the return dates for the older pupils may be dependent upon an efficient testing system being in place and we may have little control over this.  However, as you would expect, we will be doing all we can to get the pupils back into school as soon as possible.

Pupils in Years 7-11 will engage with our remote learning programme from Monday 4 January and further details will follow.  The pupils should not worry if they do not have their books at home: we will arrange the programme with this in mind.

Should you be a critical/key worker and require your child to be supervised in school during the first week of term, please complete the form below and email to; another form will be sent for the second week.

I know many of you in the medical profession will be under significant pressure at the moment.  However, should any parents be experienced in testing/have a medical background, not be currently involved in the tremendous efforts of the NHS, and be available to help the school establish our testing programme, please do get in touch.  We have no details at present but will be looking to establish a weekly testing rota.

With best wishes

Ken James
