20 January 2014

Dear Parent

British Schools Karting Championship 2014 – 11h and 25th March 2014

Following last year’s successes, the School is planning to enter the 2014 British School Karting Championship. The dates for the team’s races are as follows:

  • Safety briefing and practice – 11th March 2014.
  • Race meeting – 25th March 2014.

The event is open to pupils aged 13 and over on the 1st January 2014. Teams must consist of three drivers, all of which must be at least 1.57m (5’2”) tall. The cost for the event is £55/driver, and this covers the two race sessions.

Both sessions will be held at Karting North East, Warden Law Motorsports Centre, Sunderland, SR3 2PR, and will start at 4.30pm on each afternoon. The intention is to travel to the circuit in the school mini-bus as soon as lessons are completed for the day, and return to School for around 8.00pm. (If you would like to watch your child race, parents and family are more than welcome to attend.)

All safety clothing is provided by the circuit (helmet, gloves, overalls etc) but pupils will be much more comfortable driving in casual clothing rather than school uniform. There are changing facilities at the circuit and pupils should bring a change of clothes, and trainers, with them. Should the weather be poor, pupils may want to take a further change of clothing to wear once racing has been completed. There are snack bar and vending machine facilities at the circuit that pupils can make use of.

Each team member will race at least three times, and will start from the front, middle and back of the grid. Finishing positions will attract points, and whichever teams have the greatest number of points at the end of racing will go on to a regional final (date and venue TBC).

A full risk assessment has been undertaken for this event. First aid will be provided by the circuit if required, and the schools insurance will cover this visit. The party leader will be Mr Wilkinson.

If you consent to your child taking part in the event, please complete the tear-off slip below and return it to school with the appropriate cheque made payable to Red House School.

If you would like any further information on this event, please feel free to visit the organiser’s website which contains a vast amount of information (www.bskc.co.uk) or contact me at School.

Yours sincerely

Mr S Wilkinson
