12 November 2014
I am writing to give you details of the important events at the end of term.
The Prep. and Senior School Nine Lessons and Carols will be held in Stockton Parish Church, opposite Debenhams in the High Street, at 7.00 pm on Thursday 11th December. As you know, Red House is a non-denominational Christian school and the Service is thus a very important part of our Christian year. For this reason we do ask that all pupils attend. Pupils should be smartly dressed appropriate for the occasion. Readers, members of the choirs and musicians must be in school uniform. I expect the service to last for just under one hour.
The Nursery & Infant School Christmas Services (Years 1-3) will be held on Friday 5th December in St. Mary’s Church, Norton, next to the Nursery & Infant School. These are rather less formal than the Prep. and Senior School Service, appropriate to the age of the children, but nevertheless they are church services rather than concerts and, for this reason, both the Church and the School ask that there is no photography during the service.
The Nursery and Reception Christmas Nativity will be held on Thursday 4th & Friday 5th December at 9.15am. A DVD of the service and Nativity will be made available by the PTA.
Because of the formal nature and the length of these events they may not be appropriate for very young children. It can also be very difficult for children reading/performing in the service if there are distractions from the congregation.
Nursery & Infant parents will also be able to take part in ‘Sing Carols with Us’ at St Mary’s Church on Friday, 12th December at 9am. A separate letter will be sent out from Nursery & Infants with further details on these events.
In complete contrast to these services, on Thursday, 4th December at 7.00 pm in the Main School Hall we shall be holding “Carols and Cocoa”. This is a very informal and completely optional occasion and is a chance to come together to sing both “seasonal songs” and carols and enjoy a hot drink. Dress appropriate for “carol singing”. I expect this to last for about an hour and a half.
The School Hall, due to fire safety requirements, has a limited capacity. We must therefore ticket this event. Tickets are free and available from Mr McReddie. Please return the attached slip to the Main School office if you would like tickets. Tickets will be allocated on a “first come, first served” basis.
Other dates to remember are Y4 & Y5 PTA Christmas Party on Monday, 8th December at
4.15–6.00 pm, Y6 & Y7 PTA Christmas Party on Tuesday 9th December at 4.15–6.15 pm and the Nursery & Infant School PTA Christmas Party on Thursday, 11th December, during school hours.
The PTA will be holding a Christmas tombola for the children which will take place after the service at the Nursery and Infant School on Friday, 5th December at 2.15pm. Mulled wine and mince pies will also be available for parents, visitors and guests. At the Main School the Christmas tombola will take place at lunchtime on Monday, 8th December.
The term finishes at 4.00 pm on Friday, 12th December.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.
