Dear Parent

Clothes Show Live, N.E.C. Birmingham. Saturday 6th December 2014

Autosport International, N.E.C. Birmingham. Saturday 10th Jan 2015

Following the success of last years visits, I am in the process of organising visits to the Clothes Show Live, and to Autosport International. These visits are open to any pupil in years 6 to 11.

The Clothes Show Live is one of the countries premier fashion shows, and a wide range of clothing and accessory companies will be exhibiting their creations. The event is in an exhibition style, with several large halls devoted to specialist fashion areas. As well as High Street chains, designer brands will also be attending. Different exhibition halls highlight the work and products from a number of different outlets, from shoes and bags, to dresses and make-up! There is also a universities area, and I will be more than happy to introduce any Year 10 or 11 pupil who wishes to gather information on the wide range of fashion design courses these universities have to offer. These universities also have their own catwalk and runway show that is open to the public.

Autosport is a showcase for a wide range of motorsport disciplines as well as the engineering and technology behind each type of vehicle. This event is also in an exhibition style, with several large halls devoted to specialist motorsporting areas. There are areas devoted to Formula One, rallying, karting, drag racing, stock cars, manufacturing, accessories etc. There is also a universities area at Autosport, and I will be more than happy to introduce any Year 10 or 11 pupil who wishes to gather information on the wide range of engineering courses these universities have to offer.

The visits will both take place on Saturdays – 6th December for the Clothes Show Live, and the 10th January for Autosport. For both events, we will leave school at 6.00am and aim to arrive at the NEC at around 10am. After spending the day at the show, we will leave the NEC at around 4pm, returning to school at roughly 8pm. We will travel to and from the NEC by hired coach.

Based upon last years figures, it is anticipated that the party will be made up of approximately 30 pupils and 3 members of staff. Mr Wilkinson will be the party leader. Providing pupils are in groups of at least 3, pupils will be permitted to visit any areas of the exhibition they wish. A first aid kit will be carried on the coach, and the medical services of the NEC will be available during the visit should they be needed. Pupils will each be provided with a contact card that will identify the ‘schools meeting point’ provided by the NEC, a floor plan of the exhibition halls, as well as telephone contact details of both the party leader and School.

These visits are covered by the schools own insurance policy.

The cost for each of these visits will be £50. This cost covers entrance to the event, the Catwalk Show or Live Action Arena and transport. It does not cover meals and spending money – and eating at the NEC can be quite expensive! Pupils should dress for a day indoors, in a busy exhibition hall. Pupils are able to take cameras, but this is obviously at their own risk. The ‘Live Action Arena’ element of Autosport takes place inside another of the specially converted halls, and can be very loud. There will also be the smell of hot exhausts and tyre smoke! There will be photographs taken during both of these events, and these may be used on the schools social media pages as well as in school publications.

If you would like your child to take part in either or both of these events, I would be grateful if you could complete the slip below, indicating which of the events your child would like to take part in, and return it to school with a cheque for £50 per event. The visits will only go ahead if the minimum number of 20 pupils is achieved. The maximum number of pupils for each event will be 40. In the event of either visit being oversubscribed, places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Yours faithfully

Mr Wilkinson

Head of Technology
