16th June 2015
From September we will again be running the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme (Bronze Level), for any pupil in Year 10 willing to commit him/herself to the course. The course will run from September 2015- July 2016. Past courses have been very popular, with the majority of Year 10 participating.
There are four elements to the course – Volunteering, Skill, Physical and Expedition. The expedition element of the course will be organised by the School and will consist of a one day walk, a two day practice expedition and a two day qualifying expedition. It will be up to the pupils themselves to initiate and organise the other three elements. They will need to attend regular meetings in order that progress with the Volunteering, Skill and Physical parts of the Award can be monitored. These meetings will be arranged during the school day however, the majority of the course will be done by them in their own free time during evenings, weekends and in the school holidays.
The cost of the course will be £110 which will be payable before your child embarks on the course. This includes an electronic registering and monitoring ‘eDofE’ entry pack at £14 and the cost of practice and qualifying expeditions.
If you would like to find out more information about how we run the scheme at Red House School, there will be a meeting at the school for parents and their children on Monday 22nd June at 4.00pm. Enrolment and Parental Consent forms will be available on that evening.
So that we can make final arrangements for this event, will you please return the attached slip by Thursday 18th June.
