Dear Parents

The Eurotalk Junior Language Challenge 2015

I am writing to ask your permission for your son/daughter to take part in an exciting national competition called the Junior Language Challenge. This knock-out competition consists of three rounds.

For the first round each pupil will learn Portuguese using activities on the Eurotalk website.  They will cover many different topics such as greetings, numbers and telling the time.  Each time they complete an activity they will acquire points.  The first round will be purely computer based and unfortunately pupils will not be able to complete the challenge on i-pads.  The top 30 pupils from the area will then go forward to the semi-final, held locally in September.

The top three pupils in each region then go forward to the final in London. Last year we were incredibly successful and had two pupils representing Red House competing at Olympia.  Both pupils performed brilliantly and some fabulous prizes were awarded to the top performers for all their efforts.

Eurotalk, the company organising the event, support a charity called ‘One Billion’ which aims to ensure that children in developing countries reach their potential in maths, reading and English. Eurotalk has asked for an entrance fee of £5.00 per pupil, which will be donated to this charity.  This is the only fee regardless of how successful your child is.

This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to get a taste for lifelong language learning and build on the language skills that they will have already acquired learning French.

If you would like your child to take part in the Junior Language Challenge, please complete the slip below and return a cheque for £5.00 by Tuesday 17th March 2015.

Yours faithfully

Mrs H Garrett
