18 March 2016

Dear Parent

We are pleased to inform you that your child has been selected for the next stage of the Foreign Language Spelling Bee competition for French. They will now compete alongside pupils from other schools in the regional stage of the competition which will take place at Newcastle University on Wednesday 20th April 2016.

The event is scheduled to start at 13:00 and should finish at 16:45. We will aim to be back to school by 17:45. There will be capacity for up to four accompanying adults per school group (at least one teacher and up to three parents) to attend alongside the contestants, although this cannot be guaranteed as the event organisers may limit that number at a later stage. Please contact me as soon as possible at jessica.burel@redhouseschool.co.uk if you wish to join us.

I have attached to this letter all the vocabulary lists so you can help your child in the run up to the event. Also attached is a Routes into Languages photo permission form which I would ask that you return to me by Tuesday 22nd March 2016.

The journey to and from the venue will be covered by the school’s insurance policy. A full risk assessment has been undertaken and a qualified first aider will be accompanying the trip. Personal items such as mobile phones, personal stereos, iPods or cameras are allowed but the school cannot be held responsible for the care of these items and the school’s insurance will not cover them.

Please ensure if your child suffers from asthma or severe allergic reactions their inhaler/medication/epipen is with them. If they do not have them, they will be unable to go on the event.

We hope that it will be an enjoyable experience for your son/daughter, regardless of who ultimately makes it through to the national final.

Yours faithfully

Mme Burel

Head of French
