As some of you will already be aware, I run a Latin club after school which is aimed at pupils in year 4, 5 and 6, with the idea of introducing the basics of Latin, in a fun way, to young pupils.
Starting in September 2014 I shall be running the short course “GCSE Classical Civilisation”. This is an extra-curricular activity on a Monday lunchtime for pupils in years 8 and 9 (current years 7 and 8). The course will run for two years and at the end of this time, they will sit the proper GCSE paper for their chosen option and hand in a 2,000 word controlled assessment piece. This will then earn them half a GCSE. Any pupils starting the course in year 9 would be taking their exam at the end of year 10 so there will be some overlap with their GCSE studies, but this should be minimal.
There is no prerequisite for participation, but I would like commitment for the duration of the course.
We will be following the OCR syllabus and will be covering Unit A353: Community Life in the Classical World, focusing on the city of Pompeii. The controlled assessment will cover the topic of “Roman Britain”.
If your son/daughter is keen to take part in the lessons and is fully committed to the timetable, please complete the consent form below. The class will be restricted to 16 places.
