Dear Parent

Greenpower Goblin Electric Car Racing Event, Wednesday 25th May 2016

Nissan Test Facility, Washington.

Your child has been chosen to take part in this years’ electric racing car event which will take place on Wednesday, 25th May, and I hope that you will give your permission for them to attend.

The event will be held within normal school hours (although with a slightly early departure time), and take place at the Nissan test track, Washington Road, Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, SR5 3NS. The group, led by Mr Wilkinson, will leave school at 8.15am on the day of the event, travel to the venue using the school minibus, and then return to school in time for the usual 4pm pick-up. Pupils will be required to wear their school games kit. First aid kits will be carried on the minibus, and the venue will provide any necessary first aid once the event is underway. A full risk assessment has been undertaken by the group leaders. The trip will be subject to the conditions as set out in the Parent Contract. The schools insurances, and the insurances of the event promoter, will cover this activity. There is no cost for attending this event. Packed lunches will be provided for pupils, and, as there are no catering facilities at the venue, pupils will not need any spending money.

Please ensure if your child suffers from asthma or severe allergic reactions their inhaler/medication/epipen is in school, if they do not have them, they will be unable to go on the trip.

The event will be split into 3 separate competitive elements on the day, with each driver taking part in at least two events. The cars have been designed and built to have a top speed of about 15mph, and the competitive elements of the day have been formulated to reward skill and consistency, rather than outright speed. Cars are checked for compliance with the event safety regulations, and the wearing of overalls, helmets, gloves and seat belts are mandatory. This safety equipment will be provided by the school.

If you require any further information on this event, please do not hesitate to contact me at school. The following website may also be of interest – http://www.greenpower.co.uk/racing/goblins.

If you do consent to your child taking part in this event, please complete the tear-off strip below and return it to school as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully

Mr S Wilkinson
