SKI 2014 – FRANCE
The forthcoming ski trip will be to La Plagne. La Plagne is in the French Alps and has one of Europe’s largest ski areas with direct glacier access.
La Plagne is at the hub of the Paradiski ski circuit, one of Europe’s largest interlinked ski areas and offers 425km of skiing. Two is the magic number in Paradiski – the ski area covers La Plagne and the neighbouring resort of Les Arcs, features two glaciers, two double-decker cable cars each carrying over 200 people, and a vertical drop of 2km! In addition to the huge variety on offer, La Plagne has an excellent snow record and varied evening entertainment.
Plagne 1800 has gentle forest surroundings and a village made up of traditional chalet style buildings with direct access to the slopes and lifts. Just 50m from our accommodation is the ski school meeting point, nursery slopes and a choice of lifts providing direct access to either Plagne Centre or Aime La Plagne, or you can follow the forested runs down to Plagne Montalbert.
Plagne Centre and Belle Plagne are the main resort hubs, each providing a wide choice of lifts to explore further afield and access the surrounding satellite villages.
Belle Plagne also provides direct access to the Bellecote glacier, the highest point in resort at 3,250m, and Montchavin, the lowest at 1,250m – intermediates and advanced skiers have an unrivalled choice of runs, above and below the tree-line, and from long, gentle cruisers to steep and challenging blacks.
The hotel we shall be staying at is The Rhododendrons. This is a modern chalet-style hotel, offering excellent facilities and direct access to the slopes. It is situated in the heart of Plagne 1800. Guests simply cross the road to reach the ski-school meeting point. A free ski-bus provides a link with the other resort villages.
The hotel bar features an open fireplace, whilst other communal areas include a dance studio on the top floor, and two meeting rooms feature a pool table, TV/ DVD and classroom facilities. The ski lockers have heated boot storage and direct access to outside.
There are 42 bedrooms which sleep 2-4 people, and are all equipped with private facilities and TV. Bedrooms are simple, but comfortably decorated with pine throughout.
Breakfast and dinner are served in the restaurant, which has views across resort. We have the option of choosing from either a hot or packed lunch.
The après ski entertainment may include cinema, swimming, bowling, ice-skating, as well as quizzes and bingo. These are group activities in which all pupils participate and the money for these activities is normally taken from pocket money during the course of the holiday.
Pupils may be given permission, during our stay at La Plagne, to go shopping in small groups without the direct supervision of a member of staff.
The trip will depart on the 13th December 2014 and return on the 20th December 2014.
The cost of the holiday will be £960 and will include:
- Return coach transfer between school and airport
