9th September 2016

Dear Parents,

Year 3 Trip to Go Outdoors and Roseberry Topping.

This term the humanities topic for Year 3 will be Mighty Mountains. As part of the topic we shall be visiting Go Outdoors from 1.45 – 3.15pm on the afternoon of Thursday 22nd September to investigate mountain clothing and equipment. On Tuesday 27th September (or in case of inclement weather Tuesday 4th October) the children will be undertaking a ‘day expedition’ to Roseberry Topping during which they will record wind speed and temperature, study flora and fauna, draw field sketches, practise survival techniques, as well as climb Roseberry Topping. We shall depart at 9.15am and return to school for 3.30pm. On both occasions we shall travel by school minibus.

For the afternoon trip to Go Outdoors children will need to wear their normal school uniform. For the day trip to Roseberry Topping a packed lunch will be supplied by school. The children will also need the following items:

Trainers with good grip or walking boots. (Please do not buy boots specifically for the trip)

Sports Socks

Trousers

Shirt

Sweatshirt / fleece

Cagoule / Waterproof coat

Over trousers

Day sack

Sun hat / hat / gloves depending on the weather forecast

Once a-day sun screen (to be applied at home in the morning).

A healthy snack and a diluted drink or water

The total cost for these trips will be £5. A qualified first aider will accompany the trips. Pupils are expected to demonstrate excellent behaviour at all times and to follow instructions given by accompanying adults. Pupils are covered under the School’s insurance policy. A full risk assessment has been undertaken by the group leaders. A qualified first aider will be present. Mr Haywood will lead the trip and will be accompanied by Mrs Reeves and Miss Thompson. We would also like to take two additional adults on both trips, on the latter it would be helpful if the two volunteers have experience of walking outdoors on hills in all weather conditions! If you are able to offer your help, please let Mrs Green know.

Please ensure that you have notified School of any changes to your contact numbers and any new medical conditions for your child and ensure any inhalers/medications are given to your child’s teacher to take on the trip. We endeavour to take photographs on as many School trips as possible, please visit our website, Facebook and twitter pages to view a selection of photographs.

Please complete and returned the attached consent form by Friday 16th September.

Yours sincerely,

Mr S Haywood

Head of Nursery & Infant School
