Dear Parents

Year 5 pupils will visit the Beamish Museum on Thursday 25th February 2016. The pupils will explore the old town and mine to support their learning in our history topic about the Victorians. Pupils will investigate a mock mining accident and interview actors playing roles of various Victorian characters to discover how to make mining safer for Victorian miners.

The cost of the trip will be £9.00 which will be added to your school bill. Pupils will leave school at 8.50 am and return to school at approximately 3.50pm for pupils to be collected as normal at the end of the school day. We will travel to and from the venue on school minibuses. Parents will be informed if the return time changes.

Pupils should wear full school PE kit (tracksuit bottoms, school hoodie, outdoor trainers and waterproof coat). Please ensure if your child suffers from asthma or severe allergic reactions their inhaler/medication/epipen is with them, if they do not have them, they will be unable to go on the trip. A packed lunch will be provided for pupils and children can also bring a snack as they would for a break time.

Pupils will have the opportunity to visit the gift shop. We would ask that pupils bring no more than £5.

Pupils are covered by the School’s insurance policy. A full risk assessment has been undertaken by the group leaders. The trip will be subject to the conditions as set out in the Parent Contract, and will be covered by the school’s insurance policy. Staff will take a first aid kit with them, and there are first aid facilities at the museum Personal items such as, personal stereos, iPods or cameras are not allowed. The school cannot be held responsible for the care of these items if any pupil brings them, and insurance will not cover them. We endeavour to take photographs on as many school trips as possible, please visit our website, Facebook and twitter pages to view a selection of photographs.

I am also requesting permission for Beamish to use photographs taken on that day for promotional posters which will be used at Beamish and possibly other events. Therefore I am asking if you could complete the form below if you will allow child’s image to be used.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about this trip.

Yours faithfully

P Heaton
