A cross-curricular visit to Durham on Tuesday 7th October, covering art and religious studies, has been organised for Year 7. While there we shall be taking a guided tour of Durham Cathedral focusing on art and architecture additionally pupils will be take part in two workshops ‘Christianity through Art’ and ‘Architecture’.
For over 900 years the Cathedral has been a place of worship and pilgrimage; it contains many examples of Christian art and as part of our visit pupils will examine the three main architectural styles used in the building of Durham Cathedral.
Pupils will be transported to Durham on a hired coach from Compass Royston, we will leave school at 10:30 and will return to school at 4:00pm.
School packed lunches will be provided. Children may bring their normal morning break snack to eat before we depart. Pupils may bring pocket money (£10 maximum) to buy souvenirs, time permitting. Pupils are to wear their normal school uniform, they should bring any prep that is due to be handed in on Tuesday.
The cost of the trip will be £8:00 which will be added to your Spring term account. The trip will be subject to the conditions of the annual consent form, and will be covered by the school’s insurance policy. A full risk assessment has been undertaken by the group leader. A qualified first aider will be accompanying the trip along with Mr May and Mrs Auty. Personal items such as, personal stereos, iPods or cameras are not allowed. The school cannot be held responsible for the care of these items if any pupil brings them, and insurance will not cover them.
