Dear Parent

Women in Engineering initiative. Visit to Caterpillar, Peterlee on March 17th, pm.

Through our contacts with Caterpillar, School has been able to secure a visit to their production facilities at Peterlee. As part of an international initiative, this visit will focus on ‘Women in Engineering’ and provide an insight in to the roles women have to play in a world renowned engineering company like Caterpillar.  It is hoped that visits such as these will encourage girls to consider careers based upon the STEM subjects of science, technology engineering and maths.

The maximum number of pupils that Caterpillar can accommodate is 13, and as there are 18 girls in the invited year group, places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The visit, supervised by Mr Wilkinson and Mrs Roberts, will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday March the 17th, and pupils should be back at school for 4pm.  If the visit does happen to over-run on the day, pupils will be advised of an expected return time, and asked to relay this to their parents.  The group will travel to Peterlee in the school minibus, which carries appropriate first aid equipment.  Once at the Caterpillar facility, pupils will also be covered by the first aid facilities there.  There is no charge for this visit, and the visit is covered by normal school insurance policies.

Pupils will be required to wear full school uniform for the visit. Pupils may be asked to wear protective equipment such as a hi-vis waistcoat, safety glasses, ear defenders etc, and this will be provided by Caterpillar on the day.

If you consent to your child taking part in this visit, please complete the tear off section at the bottom of this letter. Should you have any queries about this visit, please do not hesitate to contact me at School.

Yours faithfully

Mr S Wilkinson
