Dear Parent

Your child has the opportunity to take part in a three day/two night residential trip to London which will take place in the first week of the October half term 2016 (Monday 17th October-Wednesday 19th  October, however the dates are only provisional until a firm booking is made). The itinerary of the trip is designed to give pupils a flavour of our capital city through sightseeing activities such as a Thames River Cruise and a trip on the London Eye. Pupils will also visit museums such as the Natural History Museum and the Shrek Adventure. The highlight of the trip is to experience the cultural delights of a West End Theatre Show (possibly ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’).

The trip itinerary is planned and organised with the support of a reputable company: Study Experiences. The company provides a coach which stays with our group throughout the trip. This is a real advantage in terms of safety as pupils are taken and collected from each venue in London. In addition, the company provides a guide who ensures we make the most of our time in London with ‘fast-track’ entrance into the varied attractions.

The pupils will be staying in a three star hotel in the Greater London area. The accommodation will provide en-suite rooms with a shower, breakfast and also packed lunches for during the day. Pupil’s safety is ensured as the school group are generally allocated rooms together with designated group leaders (teaching staff) located near exits.

A full risk assessment has been undertaken by the group leader. A qualified first aider will accompany the pupils. The residential trip will be subject to the conditions as set out in the Parent Contract, and will be covered by the school’s insurance policy. A consent/medical form will need to be completed as it is a residential trip, but this will be sent out to parents closer to the departure date.

The trip will cost approximately £280 plus a further £30 for pocket money to buy gifts and also to buy a meal on the return journey. This price is based upon 40 pupils; however a small supplementary cost would be added if fewer pupils express an interest in the trip. If there are insufficient pupils that express an interest, then the trip will not be viable. If you wish your child to take part in the trip, then an initial non-refundable deposit of £30 would be needed since this is used to secure our theatre tickets (though this would be returned if the trip did not go ahead). The deposit would be need to be paid by Wednesday 27th January.

We are planning the trip well in advance to ensure the best available seats in the theatre and also to minimise the impact of the cost of the trip by making payment through a series of smaller instalments.

If you have any questions about the proposed trip, then please feel free to contact Mr Heaton at school.

Yours faithfully

P Heaton
