We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Ken James as Headmaster of Red House School from September 2016.
Mr Taylor will be working closely with Mr James over the coming months to ensure that the transition from one Headmaster to the next is smooth and seamless. In due course parents will have the opportunity to meet him prior to him taking up his appointment in September. Here is a short biography of Mr James:
Ken was born in Country Durham and educated in Yorkshire. He graduated with a first class honours degree in Law from the University of Leeds and went on to read Mathematics and Education at Homerton College, Cambridge.
He has held various roles in a number of independent schools in the UK, including Director of Academic Administration (Cranleigh), Housemaster (Downside) and Director of Co-curricular (St John’s, Leatherhead). In 2008 he took up the post of Headmaster of Fyling Hall School, near Whitby and the school flourished under his leadership.
After the School achieved a very successful inspection report from ISI, Ken decided to spend time working in Australia and has held management roles in two leading independent schools. Most recently, he has been Head of Senior School and Deputy Headmaster of Cranbrook, one of Sydney’s leading independent schools.
Ken thoroughly enjoys being fully engaged in all aspects of school life, including sport, music and drama. He is a greater believer in the benefits of an holistic education and fully intends to support and enhance our co-curricular provision, whilst ensuring academic standards remain high. He is committed to excellence in all that we do.
Speaking about his appointment, Ken said:
“I am delighted to be joining the Red House community and I look forward to building upon the excellent work of Alex Taylor and his team. During my visit, I was struck by the warmth of the welcome and the obvious love the staff and children have for their school. I am excited to be joining the school on the next part of its journey.”
