We have received a glowing inspection report which gave our Early Years Foundation Stage the highest rating of “Outstanding” in every category. The Inspection Report can be downloaded here.

Children may enter our purpose built Nursery from the term in which they are three years of age. Most children attend full time, however there are some part time places available. Each child is assigned to a member of the Nursery staff who maintains close contact with the child’s parents to ensure that the transition from home to school is a happy one.

Children move from Nursery into two parallel Reception classes. Entry from Reception to Year 1 is by assessment.

Great emphasis is based upon delivering a broad and balanced curriculum which ensures the children establish a solid foundation of knowledge, skills and understanding upon which they can build throughout their lives.

Through daily routines and a well-planned programme of activities, the children work towards achieving the Early Learning Goals.

There are three prime areas of learning and development:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language

There are also four specific areas of learning through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

As a school we positively encourage effective learning through playing and exploring, creative and critical thinking, and active learning. Our well resourced indoor and outdoor facilities are stimulating environments in which to learn.

A child centred approach ensures that each child’s development is closely monitored. Children are encouraged to be actively involved in the planning and review of topics and activities, taking responsibility for their own learning. The EYFS team provide enriching experiences matched to an individual child’s learning targets to ensure that each child reaches its full potential in the Early Years Department.
