Dear Parents

Red House School PE Department – Holland Sports Tour, 10–14 April 2017

I am delighted to inform you that the Red House School sports department is currently planning a sports tour to Holland during the Easter holidays in 2017. We are looking to take an U15 Boy’s hockey team and two U14 Girl’s netball teams.

The tour will be organised through Edwin Doran Sports Tours who are one of the best school travel companies available and will provide a vast experience of the area and the standard of the local teams. Edwin Doran will also provide expert coaches to lead training sessions throughout the tour. The tour will depart on the 10th of April and will return on the 14th of April giving students the opportunity to play several competitive fixtures during the trip. The cost will be approximately £500 depending on the number of pupils interested and whether we choose to participate in any extra excursions.

The provisional itinerary for the tour is as follows:

Monday 10th April

Meet the coach and driver who will be with us for the duration of the tour. Transfer to Dover/Folkstone for the Channel crossing to Calais, from where we will drive to Holland and the Southern town Valkenburg to check into the hotel for four nights on a full board basis.  Valkenburg is a small town, full of shops and restaurants.

Tuesday 11th April

The hockey and netball squads will transfer in the morning to Maastricht for their first coaching session with UK professional coaches. We will return for a hot lunch and some free time to explore town or perhaps take part in a local excursion (supplements will apply), transferring later in the day to play our first matches:

Match 1: Local hockey teams vs. Red House School

Following the fixtures, we will return to our accommodation for the evening.

Wednesday 12th April

Following breakfast served in our hotel, we will enjoy our second full sports day, with coaching from UK professional coaches in the morning. Following the coaching sessions, we will enjoy some free time before making our way to our second fixtures:

Match 2: Local hockey team vs. Red House School

We will then return to the hotel after our fixtures and will enjoy the evening together.

Thursday 13th April

We will take a packed lunch with us in the morning. The full group will board the coach to take part in a local excursion. We will then transfer straight to the MasterClass Tournament venues for the afternoon tournaments. Both teams will play against up to 11 schools in a full day of competition.

Tournament: Hockey and Netball Tournaments.

An awards presentation, including players of the week, will follow the tournament. We will then transfer back to the hotel for a hot evening meal. All of the schools who participated in the MasterClass tournament will then transfer to a local hotel for the MasterClass Disco.

Friday 14th April

We will have an early breakfast before saying goodbye and making our way home. We will travel to the Channel crossing, before making our way back to school where our tour arrangements will end.

Additionally Edwin Doran has recently agreed a partnership with England Netball so the girls will receive expert coaching and may have the opportunity to meet some England netball players! We will also endeavour to arrange some more netball matches for the girls against the other schools when the boys play their evening fixtures.

If your son/daughter would like to participate in this proposed sports tour, please return a non-refundable deposit of £50 (cheques should be made payable to Red House School). Cheques should be handed directly to Mr Thorogood by the 25th of April. Places will be reserved strictly in order of receipt of deposits. (Please note that money may not be refunded if at a later date if your son/daughter is unable to attend and the School is unable to fully recover the amount paid to the trip organiser.)

The trip will be led by myself, Miss Howell, Miss Ewing and Mr Kitching. The trip will be subject to the conditions as set out in the Parent Contract, and will be covered by the school’s insurance policy.  A parental consent and medical form will be issued shortly before the tour departs to ensure we have up to date medical information on your child.

Pupils will be allowed to bring personal items such as personal stereos, mobile phones or cameras but these will be taken at their own risk and they will be responsible for these items at all times.

If you would like any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully

Mr T Thorogood
