Early Years

A Day in the Life of Nursery at Red House School

What does a typical day look like in Nursery at Red House School? Full of smiles, discovery, and meaningful learning, every day is carefully structured to support children’s development while ensuring plenty of fun. From wellbeing activities to outdoor exploration, our Nursery pupils enjoy a rich and engaging Early Years experience.

A Warm Welcome to Start the Day

Each morning begins with happy smiles and a warm welcome at registration. This calm and positive start helps children feel settled, confident, and ready for the exciting day ahead.

Wellbeing Wednesday and Emotional Development

Supporting children’s emotional growth is at the heart of our Nursery curriculum. Through our Wellbeing Wednesday sessions, pupils build emotional literacy and learn strategies to understand and manage their feelings – an essential foundation for lifelong wellbeing.

Outdoor Learning and Exploration

Outdoor time is a key part of the Nursery day. Children explore nature, develop physical skills, and engage their curiosity through hands-on experiences in the fresh air. Outdoor learning encourages creativity, independence, and a love of the natural world.

Healthy Snack Time for Growing Minds

Snack time provides a chance to refuel with healthy options, supporting children’s energy levels and promoting good eating habits. It’s also a valuable social moment where children practice communication and independence.

Play and Social Time with Reception Friends

Play is central to early learning. Our Nursery pupils enjoy playtime with Reception children, helping to build friendships, confidence, and important social skills in a fun and relaxed environment.

Circle Time: Communication and Confidence

During circle time, children come together to share stories, ideas, and exciting news. This daily activity develops speaking and listening skills while nurturing confidence and a sense of belonging.

Lunchtime Together

Lunchtime is a special part of the day, where children enjoy a delicious meal together with Mr Barnbrook-McKay in a friendly and supportive setting. It’s another opportunity to build independence and social skills.

Choosing Time and Child-Led Learning

Choosing time allows children to follow their interests and engage in carefully planned activities. This balance of structured learning and child-led exploration supports creativity, decision-making, and deeper engagement.

Active PE Sessions

Physical activity is essential for young learners. Nursery pupils enjoy energetic PE sessions with Miss Cummings  that build coordination, confidence, and teamwork—all while having lots of fun.

Story Time and a Calm End to the Day

The day winds down with story time, where children share favourite books and discover new stories. This calming routine supports language development and fosters a love of reading.

A Happy Home Time

After a full and enriching day, children head home happy, confident, and excited to return for another day of learning and fun in Nursery.
