Year 10 Geography Fieldwork in the Lake District

Our Year 10 pupils arrived at Blencathra Field Study Centre and quickly began exploring the stunning natural environment around them. Set in the heart of the Lake District, the trip provides an excellent opportunity for pupils to deepen their understanding of key geographical processes outside the classroom.

Fieldwork is a vital part of geography education, helping pupils connect theoretical learning with real-world observation and analysis.

Investigating Downstream Changes in a River

As part of their fieldwork investigation, pupils have been studying downstream changes in a river, an important topic within GCSE Geography.

By collecting data and making observations in the field, pupils are examining how river characteristics change from upstream to downstream, including variations in channel width, depth, flow velocity, and sediment size.

This practical experience allows pupils to apply classroom knowledge in a meaningful way while developing a stronger understanding of physical geography.

Developing Practical Geography Skills

The trip is also helping pupils build essential practical and analytical skills. Conducting their own field studies encourages them to:
