JuniorYear 3 Celebrate a Magical BFG Day at Red House School
Year 3 pupils at Red House School recently celebrated the end of their class reading of The BFG with a magical themed day full of creativity, imagination and fun. Inspired by Roald Dahl’s much-loved story, the children enjoyed a range of exciting activities that brought the book to life in unforgettable ways.

A Magical Year 3 BFG Day
After completing their reading journey through The BFG, Year 3 marked the occasion with a truly “whoppsy-whiffling” celebration. The special themed day gave pupils the opportunity to immerse themselves in the magical world of giants, dreams and adventure.
The classroom was filled with excitement as the children embraced the spirit of the story and explored its imaginative themes through hands-on activities.
Designing Dream Jars Inspired by The BFG
One of the highlights of the day was creating personalised dream jars. Taking inspiration from the BFG’s famous collection of dreams, each child designed their own unique jar before filling it with magical ingredients.
This creative activity encouraged pupils to think imaginatively while expressing their own ideas through art and storytelling. Every dream jar was different, showcasing the creativity and personality of each child.
Scrumdiddlyumptious Biscuit Decorating
The fun continued with a delicious biscuit decorating activity. Year 3 pupils carefully decorated biscuits with colourful toppings, creating their own “scrumdiddlyumptious” treats inspired by the playful language of Roald Dahl.
Not only was this a fun and engaging activity, but it also gave the children a chance to develop fine motor skills while enjoying a tasty reward.
Ending the Day with The BFG Film
To round off the celebration, the children settled down to watch The BFG film while enjoying their beautifully decorated biscuits.
It was the perfect way to end a wonderful day, allowing pupils to compare the story they had read in class with the film adaptation. The experience sparked conversations about favourite scenes, characters and memorable moments from the book.
A Phizzwizard Celebration
A huge thank you goes to the BFG himself — Mrs Ashton — for helping make the day so special. Her enthusiasm and creativity ensured Year 3 had a truly “phizzwizard” experience.
