Year 5 Inspired by Mountaineer Paul Lewis MBE

Paul Lewis MBE has led countless expeditions up Mount Kilimanjaro and has climbed some of the world’s most challenging peaks, including Mount Everest. During his visit, he shared fascinating stories from his adventures, giving pupils a vivid insight into the landscapes, wildlife and cultures found in mountainous regions around the world.

The session linked brilliantly with the pupils’ Geography topic on mountains. Paul talked about the physical features of mountain environments, the types of plants and animals that survive there and the challenges climbers face during high-altitude expeditions.

Pupils particularly enjoyed exploring the specialist equipment used by mountaineers. They had the opportunity to handle items and even try some out, helping them understand more about the preparation and resilience required for climbing some of the world’s highest peaks.

The visit was a memorable and inspiring learning experience, sparking curiosity and deepening pupils’ understanding of mountain geography.
