We are celebrating the exceptional GCSE success of our Class of 2026, with 97.5% of pupils achieving grades 9–4 and more than one in five pupils securing the very highest grade. The results place Red House significantly above national, regional and independent school averages, reflecting the hard work, determination and ambition of pupils across the year group.
Dr Rebecca Ashcroft, Head of Red House School, said:
“I am delighted to celebrate another outstanding set of GCSE results at Red House School. Our pupils have shown tremendous commitment and perseverance throughout their studies, and their achievements today are a wonderful reflection of that hard work. They have also benefited from the expertise and individual support of our dedicated staff, who have helped each pupil to fulfil their potential.
This year’s results are a fantastic achievement across the whole cohort. An impressive 97.5% of pupils secured grades 9–4, equivalent to A*–C under the former grading system, while more than one in five pupils achieved the very highest grade. The breadth of success is particularly pleasing, with strong performances across the year group and a significant number of pupils attaining exceptional results at grades 9–8 (A*).
Our results significantly exceed the national averages for England, the North East and the independent school’s sector in England. This is an important measure of the strength of our pupils’ achievements and reflects the consistently high standards and ambitious expectations we have for every young person at Red House. The results demonstrate that our pupils are not only performing exceptionally well individually, but are achieving at a level that places the school significantly ahead of wider regional, national and independent-school benchmarks.”
Among this year’s outstanding individual achievements are:
- Sarah, who achieved an exceptional 10 grade 9s and 1 grade 8;
- Lucy M, who secured 9 grade 9s and 2 grade 8s;
- Sofia V, with 7 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and 1 grade 7;
- Lucy B, who achieved 3 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s and 3 grade 7s;
- Matthew, with 2 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s, 3 grade 7s and 3 grade 6s;
- Ore, who achieved 1 grade 9, 1 grade 8, 4 grade 7s, and 3 grade 6s; and
- David, who achieved 1 grade 9, 1 grade 8, 3 grade 7s, 3 grade 6s and 2 grade 5s.
The pupils themselves were also keen to celebrate their achievements and recognise the support they have received from staff throughout their time at Red House.
Lucy said:
“I’m an overthinker and thought about GCSE results day for the whole summer! I’m so relieved today as I achieved higher grades than I needed and I’m proud that all my hard work has paid off. Thank you to all the teachers who have taught me from Nursery upwards. They have always motivated and encouraged me and I wanted to make them proud.”
Matthew said:
“I’m so happy I achieved the grades I needed to go on to study aeronautical engineering. I’d like to say a huge thank you to all staff, especially Mrs Auty, Mr Kears and Mrs Stephenson. Without their guidance, help and support, I couldn’t have achieved as much success.”
Dr Ashcroft continued: “The achievements extend beyond the Year 11 cohort. We are particularly proud of Ben in Year 10, who chose to sit his GCSE Further Mathematics examination a year early. Ben achieved an outstanding grade 9, securing full marks across both examination papers. This is an exceptional accomplishment and reflects an extraordinary level of mathematical ability, alongside the maturity and determination required to undertake an advanced qualification ahead of schedule.
While these exceptional performances deserve particular recognition, today is ultimately about celebrating every member of the cohort. Each pupil has their own story of hard work, challenge and achievement, and we are incredibly proud of the progress they have made. Their results reflect not only academic success, but also the resilience and confidence they have developed during their time at Red House.
I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to all of our pupils and their families. I would also like to thank our teachers and support staff for the outstanding contribution they make every day. Their commitment to high-quality teaching, together with the personal attention and care given to individual pupils, plays a hugely important part in enabling our young people to succeed.
We look forward to coming together to celebrate these achievements with our ‘Class of 2026’ and their families at our GCSE Celebration Evening in November. For now, however, the focus is firmly on the pupils themselves and on celebrating a remarkable set of achievements.
